Calendars… like magic!
Posted by: | CommentsI think I’ve finally managed to get all of my calendar ducks in a row. I currently live in New Mexico and work for a local government in Virginia. My work email is set up on an Outlook exchange server. Back when I was actually living and working in Virginia – I started forwarding all my Outlook mail to my gmail account so I didn’t have to worry about the very small mailbox limits imposed by the IT department. I discovered a cool thing… meetings that are set up in Outlook and forwarded to gmail end up in your google calendar. Just yesterday, I set it up so that my iCal subscribes to the google calendar (this is very easy — in google calendar under the information on sharing there is an ical button. Push the button and you get an address to subscribe to the gmail calendar. Go to iCal -paste it in and you are done!
The cool part of all of this is a) this all syncs to my Treo and b) meetings that are scheduled in Eastern time somehow get converted to Mountain time when they show up on my iCal! Now I’m just waiting for spanning sync to start the public beta so that I can try bidirectional syncing between gmail and iCal.
My husband thinks this whole thing is “really geeky” — I was just excited to get all the different parts of my virtual work life to work together.

How Web 2.0 Is Making People Smarter
Posted by: | CommentsWith the new emphasis on content, there is now more to read and more to learn on the Web than ever before. For example, there is a lot of good information out there about how to write and how to blog.
Copyblogger is my favorite of the group because it is chock full of really good information that I can use right now. Although I have been doing web sites and writing public relations materials for a while — SEO is a new concept. Hopefully, I can absorb some of this material and pass on the highlights of what I learn to you.

Welcome to the new, improved Highlight This!
Posted by: | CommentsNew business, new locale, new blog. Welcome to highlight -this — the official blog of Yellow Highlighter Solutions. Actually, at the moment, I’m just at the very beginning of my path to build a virtual assistance business. I will be attending AssistU starting in January. The AssistU program is the “graduate” program of virtual assistance — it is five months long. I’m already impressed with the program — the New Mexico group has already hunted me down and welcomed me in. I had lunch with Franni, a VA from Rio Rancho yesterday and it was lovely. I can’t wait to meet with the rest of the group next Tuesday.
My interests are diverse and I really enjoy hooking people up with new ideas and solutions to thier problems. This blog is my way to extending that curiousity into cyberspace. Hope you find something useful here.
